Exercising

I feel the need to start exercising more...or at all. lol  Boomz and I DESPISE exercising (especially running. Ugh).  In warmer weather, we used to take short walks around town, but since winter hit in about, oh, September, we haven't been doing that.  I still walk to the post office and the bank, but Boomz can't join me since he's at work.  Anyway, that's about the extent of my exercising.  Do any of you know how to ease into exercising more often or recommendations for exercise machines?  Boomz doesn't want an exercise bike, although I feel like that'd be the easiest way for us to start exercising.  We can't actually buy a machine of any kind right now since we live in a miniscule apartment, but sometimes I like to think ahead. :)  Do you have any ideas of ways to exercise inside a tiny apartment WITHOUT a machine?

I just want to be healthy, and I know exercising is part of that, no matter how much I hate it. :)

  1. I too need to ramp up on the exercising.

I personally love ellipticals... they simulate running but without the wear and tear on your knees so it's more enjoyable. And when a gym has a movie to watch that makes things fly by. I find stationary bikes only work a small group of muscles, and I get tired of bending over?

Ideally though, I don't like to work out on machines! I took up horse back riding and that was a great workout. Also a REAL bike can be great exercise, and mentally more stimulating than a stationary. But yeah... regardless, it takes some effort lol.

  2. I walk...I have a $10 walking video, more like aerobics...But to tell you the truth 32 degree weather is lovely to walk in...

I hate to sweat! ;) So I just walk. :)

  3. Pilates.
I never realized how wonderful they were until I started doing them.
Also, I spend most of my days running up and down the stairs after my two boys lol ;)

  4. If you have a Wii, there are programs like Wii Fit and Wii Active that let you get a workout in your living room.

If not, exercise videos are my best suggestion for exercising in a small space.

  5. I agree with Katherine, excercise videos are great for small spaces. And if you have it out, you'll always see it and remember to do it! good luck! :)

  6. Yes - excercise videos. I bought a bunch of cheap ones at a thrift store and then would check some out at the library to add variety when I lived in an apartment.

With machines . . . it's best to go to a gym (they have free passes to let you try it out) and try them all before committing. Most people love ellipticals, but I have a back injury and can't use them so treadmills are my go-to machine.

  7. I just recently found that Netflix has workout videos on instant view. You can also watch free videos online through hulu.com or www.exercisetv.tv

    That's what I like to do :)

  8. Some of my favorites on exercise TV are "bootcamp" and "total body 10 lb. slimdown"...not that it has happened yet for me, but those are good! Good luck!

  9. Exercise videos. I like The 30-Day Shred with Jillian Michaels right now since it's only a 20 minute commitment. I break out into a sweat and it kicks my butt, but in a manageable way.

  10. Hey dear! Do you have one of those resistance bands? They are AMAZING for strength work without needing much space at all, and the exercises are simple. I can explain more to you via email if you want!
Do you like to dance? I'm a big Zumba fan (taught the class for a couple years, on a break now obviously :)) and you might find it fun! :)

  11. oh and a stability ball. All you need is a stability ball and a resistance band :) and then some sort of cardio - walking, dancing, etc :)
